Finally figured out what the problem was with Scrapbook - the first picture file was a .bmp. Apparently, Scrapbook can't handle .bmp's, which is fine, but some sort of warning might have been nice? Finally occured to me to check the format of the pics I was trying to upload, resaved, and voila...
